Cotswold Transport Planning were appointed to support a proposal of an all-weather pitch at Wantage Town Football Club. As well as access improvements and the formalisation of 65 allocated car parking spaces together with a coach parking/turning area at Wantage Leisure Centre.

The new car park and coach parking/turning area at the Leisure Centre would be available for users of the Football Club, Leisure Centre and the nearby King Alfred’s Academy.

Issues & Solutions

Cotswold Transport Planning prepared a Transport Statement, Travel Plan and Construction Traffic Management Plan in order to assess, mitigate and control the proposed development.

A key element of our work was mitigating the impact of the shared use of the car and coach parking facility given there were three distinct user groups. In order to reduce conflict and ensure the car park met each users requirements, a detailed Car Park Management Strategy was developed by Cotswold Transport Planning. In collaboration with Wantage Leisure Centre, King Alfred’s Academy and Wantage Town Football Club an agreement for a barrier controlled car park and permit system was developed.

The planning permission will enable expanded and formal parking for the Football Club, King Alfred’s Academy and for Wantage Leisure Centre.

The car and coach parking will be available to Wantage Leisure Centre users and King Alfred’s Academy staff (limited number of permit holders only) during the day and Wantage Leisure Centre users as well as Wantage Town Football Club (limited number of permit holders only) during the evening and weekends.
