Cotswold Transport Planning were appointed by RES Homes to provide the necessary transportation inputs and advice in order to achieve technical approval for highway improvement works associated with a residential development.

Issues & Solutions

The highway improvement works consisted of a new ghost island right turn lane, which would provide the primary vehicle access to the site. The new ghost island will be situated on the A48, where a 50mph speed limit is in place. A new footway to the existing bus stop and pedestrian refuge island was also proposed. Given the location of the highway works on a principal road with traffic speeds, a safe and robust design was of paramount importance.

Cotswold Transport Planning produced highway construction detail drawings, a legal agreement drawing, a Stage 2 Road Safety and Mobility Audit, a Designer’s Response to the audit and submitted a suite of information to meet the Council’s validation requirements. We also liaised with the client’s contractor to ensure that they were approved to work on the public highway and met the Council’s insurance requirements. Finally, we advised the client on all other aspects of highway works throughout the process, such as booking road space and providing traffic management.


Technical approval was granted in a timely fashion.
